Competence is not always good
Stranger: Companies are very influential on our everyday lives and many have even caused catastrophes such as Nestle misinformation campaigns or even wars
Stranger: It'd seem unwise to leave entities with such a gross amount of power go unregulated
You: they are not unregulated. They are regulated by the market. Companies aren't perfect or are there to govern. As much as you want them to be that way, truthfully a business is nothing more than a service or a product that solves an issue in society. sometimes they failed and they get corrupted but at least we spread the power across anyone who is will to put the effort in society.

Stranger: The market only asks for services or products
Stranger: Not the way you get them
You: the market usually decides based in competence. our society runs on competence.
Stranger: This incentives profit over every other concept and has led o some nasty situation

Stranger: I'd call the extraction of minerals in Africa or production of fruits in Central America during the cold war a competent operation
